Overview

Japan Bites is an independent editorial site. We do not require accounts, logins, or personal information to use this site. This policy describes the limited data we collect and how we use it.

Analytics

This site uses two analytics services to understand how pages are used:

• Vercel Web Analytics — collects anonymized page view data only. No cookies are set, no personally identifiable information (PII) is collected. See Vercel's privacy documentation.
• Google Analytics 4 (GA4) — collects session data, page views, and approximate location (country / region only). IP addresses are anonymized (anonymize_ip is enabled). GA4 sets its own cookies and is only loaded after you accept via the consent banner. See Google's privacy policy.

Data storage

Shop data, scores, and editorial content are stored in Supabase, a hosted PostgreSQL service. No user data is stored. Supabase is used exclusively as a read-only data source for this site's content.

Third-party links and affiliate links

Some pages on this site contain links to third-party booking platforms such as TableCheck, Pocket Concierge, and 一休 (ikyu). These may be affiliate links — clicking them does not transmit your personal data to us, but the destination platform operates under its own privacy policy.

Cookies

This site does not set its own first-party cookies. The only cookies that may be set are Google Analytics cookies, which are loaded only after you explicitly accept via the consent banner. Your choice is stored in your browser's localStorage so the banner does not reappear. You can change your preference at any time using the "Reset consent" button in the Analytics section above.

If you navigate to an affiliate booking platform via a link on this site, that platform may set its own cookies as described in its privacy policy.

Personal information (APPI)

Under Japan's Act on the Protection of Personal Information (個人情報保護法, APPI), we note that this site does not require registration or newsletter signup. The only data we process is (a) anonymized analytics (described above) and (b) messages you voluntarily send via the Contact form, which are delivered by email and not stored on our servers.
